    Default 3 hunting rifles

if you could get any 3 calibre rifles for hunting to cover all / most animals you're likely to hunt in SA which 3 would you go for? To cover everything from guneia fowl, sprinbuck, kudu, eland and gemsbok. Not looking for manufacturers but just the calibres

    I am thinking

    222-50 or a 243

    1. 7x64 Brenneke

    2. .375 H&H

    3. Not sure i need a 3rd one. Have a few other calibres, but the first two work for me. No, actually the 7x64 is the only calibre I need.

308 (a nice light, carry all day, shoot one or two shots gun)

Another 308 set up for voorsit (heavier stock + silencer)

    Why a .308 and .243?

Will the .270 not be better in the .243's place?

    1. 6.5 Creedmoor in a heavy barreled rifle.
    2. .300 win mag in a normal hunting rifle with a 24" barrel.
    3. .375 H&H in a ± 9 pound rifle with a 22-24" barrel.

PS. For the odd guinea fowl the OP mentioned I'd use the .375 H&H with solid (non-expanding) bullets.

And people go 375 and 416?

"Likely to hunt", that be the keywords, dangerous game are not hunted by most SA people, hence not likely to be hunted, at all for that matter.

I get the feeling most people just answered at the sight of the question, not to the question itself.
