Default So, my DFO just informed my rifle is listed as "destroyed" .

Yes, you can imagine my shocked disbelief.
Here am sitting at the appointment to renew the license (the third renewal), but the "system" says my rifle is under "State status 10" , meaning it was destroyed.

    Now the fun begins.
    Gunsmith Inspection Report.
    Affidavits.
    Another SAPS form 5something...
    Renewal submission,
    Months, years of waiting.

You can imagine how exited I am.

I must admit, the DFO was very helpful, informing, friendly and concerned.

What a fustercluck. Wish you all the best in getting it sorted. Just like when you are fraudulently married off to some Nigerian immigrant by a skelm at home affairs or where the licensing dept incorrectly records a chassis number, its now your problem to fix.

Always best to check regularly with DFO of eveything that should or should not be listed in your name along with the correct status.

I had nighmare with a FA that was stolen along with a safe ripped out of my wall 20 years ago. (long story)
A case was opened with the police at the time & I was not found negligent in any way, but 20 years later I discovered by chance whilst making a new application that the FA was still not listed as stolen on the system.
Detectives had to pull the original docket & re-open the case to see what happened. You could imagine how it all went from there.
If that FA had been used in a crime after it was stolen, I hate to even think what would have happened.

In another instance I had one firearm listed TWICE on the system, with one digit difference in serial numbers.
It was obviously captured twice & botched on the 2nd capture.
So the CFR had me down as the owner of a FA that didnt even exist.
    Another nighmare to sort out.

I have to say though, that in both cases my DFO was super helpfull.

Good luck getting your issue resolved

Hay great news! Means you can now sell your rifle on the Cape Flats or Mozambique border and not need to worry about pesky paperwork. Just joking what a fucking mess.

My father in-law was also told the same thing with a bsa 22. Even though he still has it and has had it for at least 40 years. Also busy with the admin to sort it out now

Another story that needs to be added to the list of problems we have with CFR. Maybe forward it for information only to GOSA (who will promptly try and persuade you to pay them to sort it out) and to SAGA & Martin Hood so that they can add it to their records.

My GOSA subs is up to date, but have the low-down on what needs to happen.
Just the pain of having to actually go through it.

Exactly my thoughts, but I thought out loud, in front him, he just looked at me.

I will keep this updated with as much detail.
    For prosperity.

    1. Gunsmith Inspection report completed.
Sommer bought 2 packets of ammo for the "unlicensed" rifle too!

    2. Next stop: DFO at SAPS Parow.
    A Constable Janse van Rensburg.
Apparently also a switched on DFO

    Updates to follow.

    Update:
The renewal application was submitted this morning and accepted.
Paid the R77.00, got the invoice.

CFR databases says the rifle was voluntarily handed in for destruction.
    In 2012.
    At the Marikana office.
Yet, I renewed it in 2016 last.

I must just state that the staff at SAPS Parow is amazing. DFO Constable Janse van Vuuren, tannie Melani. Absolute professionals, was a pleasure to go through the application process. All 2 hours of it.

Are you at least able to store the rifle? Or did you have to hand it in till the mess is sorted?

Lol... The usual South African efficiency... I wonder if they get special training to be so incompetent...
