    Yes, the cases are all based on the 308 Win. But it's not the case that determines action and magazine length, the COL is.

    Most short action (308W length) mags limit the COL to 71 or 72mm. This works great for a 308W or 243W.

    The 260 Rem also fits well with bullets up to 123gn in length. If you want to use 140gn bullets, it is difficult to keep the COL short enough to fit within 71mm. This is because of the longer ogives of the bullets. And since the 6,5mm calibers do their best long range work with bullets of 140gn or more, being able to accommodate these is a good idea. A standard (30-06 length) action does this much better.

    So after a few months of reading and writing and learning and enquiring I have made up my mind and bought a 6,5x55 SM Howa rifle. My first push feed rifle and also first decent (I hope) hunting rifle for beyond 80 meters other than my 30-06.
