The original round nose was also around 227gr. The shape seems a bit off fromt he photo. "The M/88 cartridge was loaded with 2.75 g (42.4 gr) of single-base (based on nitrocellulose) smokeless powder and a relatively heavy, 14.7 grams (227 gr), round-nosed ball bullet with a diameter of 8.08 mm (0.318 in)'

2 bullets that I have seen with a double cannelure are the older .303 or the French 8x50 lebel. More likely a .303 in SA.
I don't recall seeing any 8mm mauser bullets having 2 cannelures.

I have weighted it on someone else's scale and it was 13.5 gram or 208 grain. Since some of the coating is missing it could originally been slightly heaver, maybe maximum 14 gram or 216 grain.

Sounds like the old Mk I or Mk II .303Brit bullets then.

Not sure where Sterling is in Slum but there used to be a shooting range near the GP racing track in the South just behind the dunes . I watched Sterling Moss (origin of the name?) race there in late 50s or early 60s when I was a lighty.
