Building a .303 bolt action - but doing it better.
To build a .303 British on a decent platform, using a K98 or Musgrave action, why not?
Turn that fffkkknn rim off the case and use the shoulder to measure off.
Why not ? It is a incredible cartridge!

Or use a P14 action to start with. My brother bought a BSA P14 which was commercially sported and fitted with a BSA barrel.

Such a boringly common sense answer.
Buuuuut ! - but! If you had a decent stock and a decent lock up system would the realms of 300 Win Mag + not be more realistic a comparison?
I know i can get a lot more out of that cartridge than the bolt can handle.

I think it is called a P14.
And no, I don't think it is an incredible cartridge. It tapers too much, too much bolt thrust. Case life is short.
.303 Epps on the other hand seems ideal. Should be just shy of .30-06 performance.

Re: Building a .303 bolt action - but doing it better.
A friend has a 303 rifle. It is built on a P14 action, has a thick, fluted barrel and heavy laminated stock. And it shoots. Very well. Only odd thing about the rifle is the caliber.
If you want to go rimless, well then go rimless. The 308 is pretty commonly available.

Re: Building a .303 bolt action - but doing it better.
At least one of the "better" British gunmakers used to build .303's on a K98 action. I seem to recall that the magazines were a bit of an issue because getting a tapered case to feed as well as a "straight" walled case was difficult because the mag hadn't been designed to do that at the outset.
Wesley Richards maybe?
WJ Jeffery?
There have been 1 or 2 on the Classic Arms auctions over the years.

This is a neat idea, I hope you pull it off somehow.
I feel fortunate to have two No. 5’s in my possession. Handy little buggers.
Are there double rifles made in .303B?
