    That SAPS86 number means nothing.

Don't use that number. Its not the correct one.

If you received a SMS from SAPS, it has the real reference number. Something like:

SAPS msg: Application Ref. 86***** for calibre .30-06 SPRINGFIELD s/n BA3***** receives attention at the DFO. Do not reply to this SMS.

That is the reference. And if you do t have it, and the ID/serial number entry isn't working, it might not be captured yet on the system. So maybe speak to your DFO

Just some feedback....called DFO and received correct ref number.
He couldn't provide the status of my application....understaffed.

Proceeded to the online site and entered the details.....and Houston lifted off!

Thanks for all the help guys.

Now......what does the feedback actually mean?

You are close to end now (just another 2-3 months).
    Went through steps of:
    - PAYMENT RECEIVED (still with DFO)
    - SENT TO PROVINCIAL DFO
    - SEND TO AVR (criminal record check)
    - SENT TO LICENCING DEPARTMENT
    - RECEIVED AT LICENCING DEPARTMENT
    - IN PREP FOR CONSIDERATION
    - CONSIDERATION
    - APPROVED / NOT

(Hope I did not miss a step somewhere)

In a few days it might change to "for consideration", then either approved/refused.

For me, from in prep to acceptance was under 2 weeks. Consideration was very fast - 1-3 days max

At what point do I collect my firearm, in the event of and assuming all is successful?

After approval you have to wait for the card to be printed, and then for the DFO to go and fetch the card.

Once you have the card in hand, you can collect the firearm.
