    Default M1 Garand

    Hi all,

Just for interest sake, are there M1 Garand rifles available in SA? I did some research and found one that was on auction a few years ago and it sold for R50k, but that is so far the only one that I could find.

Also check Classic Arms auctions. The normally under 20k. The ones that are more expensive are them more sought after collectors items like the sniper variants etc.

Miles out of my lane here but I think their prices also vary a lot based on who manufactured them. Some manufacturers being rarer and more desirable than others.

This will give you start. This is how the US civilian marksmanship programs grades Garands.

I love the idea of the CMP. The 'no more than 8 per buyer per calendar year' restriction made me chuckle.

The CMP has been around for over a hundred years. Right now they don't have much in stock because of 2 years of covid. You can get a service grade, which is a very good one, for about $700 USD. Top of the line ones are around $1100. Rare ones can be $1500 and up.
You can even request a WWII one.

If you find one this will help you ID what it is and when it was made.
