    Default HELP S13 or S15

    Morning guys

Please advise as to the best way forward..
My sons aged 21 and 26 are in the process of applying for firearm licences. Both have chosen the Glock 43X as EDC.

The dealer advised me to apply under S15 but dont see them really interested in sport shooting. This will probably be the only handgun they buy, might just get a shotgun later. Will it be advisable to rather just apply under S13.

    Any advise will be appreciated

    Thanks

Licence under the section most applicable to their circumstances.

Consider also that the FCA could be amended at some point to stipulate that firearms may only be used for the reason it was licenced for, or something along those lines. (Absurd, yes, but most gun laws are)

Join NHSA. And get Dedicated status. Easy as can be. You do not even have to join a club. Go shoot anywhere take pic of target and upload.

    And your all sorted.

With S15 You will need letter of club proving you occasionally shoot there. Alot of hassles everytime.

    So NHSA way easier.

You do not need club membership for S15.

S15 is by far the least hassle.

But yes NHSA offers an excellent service if you require dedicated status.

I like dedicated (S16) for the ammo allowance. As stated above NHSA is an easy and hassle free way to obtain and maintain it even if you aren't keen on sports shooting.

    thanks for the replies gents.

is it then still totally legal to carry (EDC) your s16 firearm, as i was told that these firearms can only be used at a range or competitions

Only if you have frequently shot at a Range and can proof it or get the Range to give you a letter. DFO will insist on proof of occasional shooting. So unless he has this already. Will need to obtain this.

Also once S16 is easily obtained. The door for future purchases is open and easy.

You can EDC with S13, S15 or S16. No difference at all.

S16 at least allows you more then 200 rounds. And gives you easier route in future should you wish to purchase anything else.
