Johannesburg - An attempted cash-in-transit heist at a Pick n Pay in Lenasia was foiled when alleged armed robbers were arrested by security guards at the store on Thursday, Soweto police said.

A G4 cash van had just pulled over at the store's front entrance when six armed men accosted it and made off with a box of cash, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

However, the suspects were spotted by guards and chased before leaving the store complex.

Two of the alleged robbers were arrested and the stolen cash box recovered before they could make it out of the complex.

Four of the alleged robbers fled.

The two arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon on charges of armed robbery.
