Re: .500 S&W. Bullet for Buffalo.
This is the load data supplied by the rifle manufacturer.
And this is the rifle.

They have a super flat point round. Shoot XPB for first shot and then the FP solids.

Re: .500 S&W. Bullet for Buffalo.
I know that sectional density means very little in expanding bullets, but in bullets of similar construction it might give a rough indication of penetration potential.
The 375gr .500" bullet have a sd of 0.214, less than that of a 235gr .375 bullet (0.24).
A 400gr .500" bullet have a sd of 0.229, quite a bit less than a 250gr .375" bullet (0.255).
A 450gr .500" bullet have a sd of 0.257, very similar to that of a 250gr .375 bullet.
I think that the 375gr Barnes will work for a broadside shot but I will be worried if the bull is standing at an angle.
Buffalo bulls have been killed with .44 magnum and .454 Cassull revolvers, using 300gr bullets with relative low sd, but most of those were shot with non expanding bullets.

Re: .500 S&W. Bullet for Buffalo.
Reading the fine print the velocities attained even in an 18" barrel are all below 2000FPS with energy hovering around the 2400 - 3200Ft/Lb mark depending on projectile. This is borderline for a Cape buffalo is it not? The one video I did see where a buffalo is hunted with a .500S&W it took multiple shots over a protracted period of time to kill the animal. I suppose this is normal when using minimum power cartridges?

Re: .500 S&W. Bullet for Buffalo.
That is why I suggested XPB as first shot and if follow up is needed then the use of the flat point solids.
