    Default Opinions on Hearing Protection

    Hi guys,

My long serving Peltor Sporttac’s have broken and I need a replacement set.

    Is there a better alternative?

What is the Gold standard for over-ear active hearing protection?

    Regards,
    Wesley

MSA Sordins are heavy. They are better with the replacement gel pads. But they work well.

Ive used muy MSA's now for + 5 years. Best ever.

I on receiving them fitted Gel pads. They unfortunately retired end last year as the gel started coming out.

I replaced with Alpha make gel pads.

I like the thinner design of the MSA's more then Sportac. As it makes mounting my O/U easier. Sportacs bump the stock. and with Claypigeon and shotgun you need to mount that stock well against cheek bone.

Cheaper once then MSA and Sportac are not all digital. So you can hear it cutting away when shots go off. It cuts all sound. On some there is small delay before sound returns and I dont like this.

Digital once only cut the loud sounds and normal sounds come through while shots go off.

With Gel MSA's are so comfortable. On rifle range even when I go to patch targets I leave them on.

The gel pads on mine came apart and I don't think it handles Durban weather well. They are the most comfortable ear protection I have ever used. I wear glasses with very light wire-like arms and the Sordin fits very well.

Being able to mount an O/U was something I hadn't thought of being possible. For me, that's reason enough to give them a look. Must get some gel rings for the sporttacs too as it sounds as though they are a real win.

Gel Pads on actually any make is a great upgrade.

As it makes way more comfortable with normal and shooting glasses on.
As the frames dont dig as hard into your skin.

Have had a pair of MSA Sordins since around 2007 and have been using them for rifle, shotgun and very regular pistol shooting events and comps. Agree wholeheartedly that the gel pads (bought as an extra) make a huge difference (am currently on my second set of gel pads). Well worth the money spent on them.
