I think a lot of units got R1 bayonets chromed for parade purposes. Unmodified they still fit on the 22mm flash hider. The grenade retention spring holds them in place.

Cheers Peter, my interest in this aspect is historical knowledge and not collection.

Please allow me to explain my first question.

    You ask:

This can mean anything - either combat related facts based on experience or hearsay, or it can refer to bayonet throwing competitions between bored soldiers, or it can refer to archival knowledge whih is important for collectors.

Then the answers mostly refer to chromed bayonets, used for parade purposes.

Hence my question: which type of bayonet use are you looking for?

I understand - I was referring to the purpose for which it was originally designed - poking holes in people. =)

There were lots of "pokings", mostly accidental and not into the enemy. Some troops got injured while playing with them, while others got injured when they passed out on parade, usually during a long, boring speech by some politician while the troops were standing in the blazing sun.

I remember our Navy Uzis came with bayonets as well. We never trained with them though.

Hahaha ja most injuries were "friendly fire" incidents, you had to be in the SADF to experience what a creative unsupervised troep could do.
