Default Winchester Pre-64 Action - 416 Remington build

I am wanting to build a .416 Remington on a Winchester Pre 64 Action. Where is the best place to find an pre-64 action? Lastly what should one expect to pay for the Pre-64 action?

Look for big bore rifle builders, but it's a very long shot.

You will allways find a pre 64 action on a pre 64 rifle.

I bought a rifle made in 1946, at the time it was 19k.

By a Zastava magnum lenght action from Human Coop- last time I phoned it was R10300- from then, then add the Ram cost to your gunsmith.
The actions are true Control Feed Mauser M98 like.

I have read your heading , however why don’t you purchase a new Winchester Mod 70 in 416 Rem , it will be a lot cheaper than a custom rifle ?
a finer out of the box 416 Rem will not be found .

Couldn't agree more. The current Mod 70's are extremely finely made things.

I don't see the reason why people think these actions are so great.

IMO, the M77 action is far superior.

    Far? In what respect?

firstly, you can fit a scope if you want. my pre war action can't.

comparing my m77 in 416 to that, my m77 never fails to feed, and feels much smoother

Oh OK, I was referring to the current production M70 rather than the Pre-64.

I was wanting to build a custom rifle on a either a pre or post Winchester (CFR Action). All my current rifles are Winchester Model 70's. So I am wanting to keep everything the same.

There rationale was that it might be cheaper to buy a barreled action opposed to buying new rifle then customizing it.

However it appears that buying a Model 70 in 416 Remington might be the answer. I would then just get a gunsmith to add a quarter rib and change the bottom metal, back sights and restock the rifle. Also 'slick up' the rifle action.
