I was wanting to build a custom rifle on a either a pre or post Winchester (CFR Action). All my current rifles are Winchester Model 70's. So I am wanting to keep everything the same.

There rationale was that it might be cheaper to buy a barreled action opposed to buying new rifle then customizing it.

However it appears that buying a Model 70 in 416 Remington might be the answer. I would then just get a gunsmith to add a quarter rib and change the bottom metal, back sights and restock the rifle. Also 'slick up' the rifle action.
