Firearm ID old SAPS auction
I have a pretty awesome neighbour. One of those jack of all trades master of 3 types. He does a bit of everything so we always have a lekker chat and he always has something interesting on his table.
I saw this gun quite some time ago but he recently brought it out again and I thought it would be nice to know more about it.
Best I can remember he bought it early 90's at a SAPS auction.

I can't say anything for fact but it looks like a converted rifle because it has a rifle length action but I there is a slot under the magazine box. It is about as big as a 9mm.
My idea of converted is kinda sketchy because the bore seems bigger than .22 which is usually the most popular training caliber. Maybe back then there were more calibers that were close to being as plentiful or cheap like a 22 or maybe this guy is so old that .22 was not even plentiful at all.

The sights are marked from 6 to 20 which further confuses me because it has to be a big caliber.
The rifle is short compared to rifles of that time.

The rifle has a cut on the front for an attachment. Next tot the band is the button. The cut changes to a hole at the band and it is open all the way to the magazine. I see a rod online but why would it need one? Was it a cleaning rod?

Markings on the rifle are not easy to see but the numbers and the Torino name is clear.

So what is a rifle like this doing at a SAPS auction and what was the use of it? Was it converted at some point? Did it do 'duty' in SA?
All I know is it is an awesome looking gun

Re: Firearm ID old SAPS auction
Seems there is some people who love this gun. I also noticed that I think I know a lot about guns, but I don't :)
Thank Ds, I'm gonna catch up on my homework now.
Edit: 20:00 Yesterday! I want to shoot this thing. It looks like a whole new feeling.

It takes a village to run a gun forum?
Sorry for the hi-jack but AR I am curious, where did you get all the knowledge you have on firearms?
