    Default Tsessebe.

Tsessebe (Damaliscus lunatus lunatus) cow and calf. Called a basterhartbees in Afrikaans, it is closely related to blesbuck and bontebok.
It is the fastest antelope in Africa. The lunatis part of the name apparently refers to the half moon shape of the horns although they do often behave in strange ways.

Interesting T, never knew it is the fastest. How far is it from a Rooihartebees?

TStone. I have livestock to care for, so I look at other things on photos than normal. Your grazing quantity and quality looks really good. I bet you should have an easy winter with regards to grazing this year. The rain helps a lot in this regard, but the species of grass in the photo in general are not those that quickly develop after good rains. It shows careful veld management in the long term. Hope the youngsters will thrive this year.

It is closely related to blesbuck. Blesbuck and red hartebeest are close enough to interbreed, although this rarely happens.
    So, pretty close, I guess.

That's very interesting, I never knew that could happen...

I doubt if it will ever happen in larger areas with herds of both. Normally, this happens in areas where you have a lone male hartebeest and a herd of blesbuck. Same thing can happen with kudu and eland and with blue- and black wildebeest and sable and roan antelope.

Very interesting all round. Being the fastest antelope was a surprise.
Also was unaware that there were any in RSA. Always assumed they were Botswana/Zambia region.
