    Default .30 Super Carry

So I saw this yesterday. It looks like Federal developed a new pistol cartridge specifically aimed for the self defence market. It's interesting to see this kind of innovation, but the market viability, especially with the current shortages of even 9mm parabellum, is at the very least doubtful.

Caliber is .312'' and it looks like bullet weight goes up to at least 100 grain. Muzzle energy supposedly approaches 124 grain 9mm loads. Nighthawk Custom and Smith and Wesson have already made guns for it.

' Just thought I'd share it here and maybe see what other forum members thoughts are.

Looks like a shortened and rimless 327 Federal Magnum designed for semi-auto pistols, to me. Since I already carry the 327 FedMag in a SP-101, I’m curious to learn more about it.
    Thanks for posting!

Looks like a solution looking for a problem to me. Only benefit I see over 9mmP is the potential for a little more capacity.

    12 rounds in a single-stack configuration.
    24 rounds possible in a double-stack?
    The Kel-Tec PMR-30 holds 30 rounds of .22 magnum.
    Intriguing.

If Glock made one in G26 Dimensions I would have bought one already

I don't get it. I may be wrong, I dont see it taking over the market. Similar recoil levels to 9mm, terminal ballistics close to 9mm, you gain marginal capacity. Not a game changer.

I suspect the real benefit would be being able to get more cartridges into a sub-compact (G43-size) pistol. If a double stack mag taking say 13 rounds could be made to fit flush in a G43, and more in an extended version, this could be interesting. Not that I expect to see any such pistol or ammo in SA soon.

Unless there has been a quantum leap in bullet design, there is no way the terminal balistics can be the same as 9mm. Not that I have a problem with that. Would probably work great in PCC due to the increased magazine capacity in the same form factor.

I expect similar calibre debates as the 9mm/.45 arguments.

As I understood it the Federal guy was saying that they slightly overlapped at or near equivalent bullet weights. That seems reasonable given that its a higher pressure cartridge.
