This is all just way, way too convenient. I simply cannot help but think that the accused (Zandile Mafe) is the fall guy and, more than likely, that some key information or report etc was probably the target of this "break-in".

Besides Dali Mpofu wouldn't be defending this guy pro amico...

I would tend to lean towards that train of thought.
A guy decides to break in to a building, a normally very highly protected property. So he gets in, with his explosive devices or fire starting kit, steals a few laptops and some documents. Then sets fire to the building, makes his escape with booty and 1 unused explosive device and casually strolls around until he is tracked down and arrested. A very unusual modus operandi.

Going back a bit in history, Verwoed had 2 assassination attempts on his life, the first by a soutie with a firearm (.22 was probably a poor choice) but failed.
The second by a mixed decent orderly who obviously succeeded.

The uncanny coincidence is that both were certified insane.

Now it would be possible to draw numerous conclusions from these events, for me the likelihood of this chap actually doing the deed, unless he is really a highly trained operator and an equally good actor leaves me doubting the states evidence.

Alleged Parliament arsonist Zandile Mafe spent nearly 30 hours inside the National Key Point, setting off dozens of alarms as he made his way through various parts of the building before setting fire to a pile of boxes nearly 26 hours after he first gained entry.

This was while two police officers on duty in a nearby control room noticed nothing at the time he entered Parliament - one was caught on camera sleeping, while the other had headphones on.

This was according to a senior police source with direct knowledge of the investigation who has viewed the extensive footage of the incident and who spoke to News24 on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to speak about the investigation to the media.

Well isn't it seen as treason with severe consequences for any party to discuss anything related to security arrangements of national keypoints? Would you risk the criminal consequences, your security clearance, pension, etc to blab shit to the media?

One could be forgiven to think that the DA is playing along as it also conveniently hands them their revenge on De Lille by blaming her, when the actual security responsibility belongs to Cele, where in the past it was the defence force's responsibility but yes, let's go with the media narrative.

I'd vote that the story is a rather transparent cover up of something else, whatever it may or may not be.

Certainly seems that way. 30 hours is a long time to be wondering around a building. That would imply multiple shift changes in security, unless these are hardcore type long shift people.

Or the accused is a bona fide nutcase and just made it up as he went along.

ZANDILE MAFE ALLEGEDLY PROVIDED REASONS FOR TORCHING PARLIAMENT, COURT HEARS:

Zandile Mafe allegedly provided reasons for torching Parliament, court hears (ewn.co.za)

Mafe apparently demanded that President Cyril Ramaphosa resign on 8 January and that convicted murderer Janusz Waluś be released from prison on the same day that late former President Nelson Mandela was freed from incarceration from Robben Island.

He also wants a R1,500 social grant for all the unemployed to be rolled out and demanded that the State of the Nation Address (Sona) not be held this year, referring it as the State of the Nonsense Address.

Defence lawyer, Advocate Dali Mpofu, said that the information had not been authenticated and that the State was simply trying to create sensation.

"The circus tent burnt down 02 January 2022" - would be a better header.

Couldn't agree more. What goes on in there is a farce. I can't think of a single thing that parliament has achieved in the last 10 years that was worth 1% of the annual budget for the shit show.

This story is wild. It seemed almost plausible until this line "and, that the South African government gave the US government trillions for Americans to get their social grants." and things went a bit south from there.

It's so demented it's almost funny. Best bit is that Dali Mpofu's on the case. Seems appropriate.
