Re: Are Smith & Wesson knives any good?
Not in my opinion. Blade does not hold an edge, their fit and finish are not well executed and quality just is not there. They use 440C but their heat treat is just not there. Compared to other 440c knives I have they are way way under par. Hence why they are generally so cheap. Their designs are not appealing to me as well. I would rather buy a swiss army knife and safe for something from CRKT, Cold Steel or even better Spyderco or Benchmade, then higher priced knives like Chris Reeve, Strider, Zero Tolerance or a custom where the chances for a bad qaulity knife are minimal.
IMO S&W should stick to what they know. Firearms.

Re: Are Smith & Wesson knives any good?
yeah what Marthinus said.
their fixed blades are ok,in my opinion,if you want a cheap beater, and edge-holding is not an issue.
most of their designs are rip-offs.
some of their folders are on par with CRKT [yes some CRKT's are that crap in my opinion].
a skinny stainless liner lasts only so long.so does a skinny ti liner, like on most Emersons.but that's another topic for discussion.
i have taken a closer look at Kershaw folders a few months back, and like their mid-range models, with the thicker stainless liners.i'd recommend these.i take knives to a gunfight

Re: Are Smith & Wesson knives any good?
suppose the old saying "Goedkoop is Duurkoop" (for our non afrikaans speaking - "Buying cheap works out expensive"), is true for anything, be it guns, cars or knives. Buy the best once and you wont have to spend money on it again. I personally have no experience or opinion on Smith & Wesson knives, but with this many warnings already, maybe best to just go out and do it right the first time.
