Pistol Hard Chroming
Hi everyone,
I live on the KZN coast and want to hard chrome my CZ 75 to increase its rust resistance.
Some people say it's the best coating with excellent durability. Others say its a gamble and the coating can change the tolerances and affect reliability.
What are your thoughts? Have any of you had your pistols hard chromed?
Thanks for your help

Re: Pistol Hard Chroming
In a world where cerakote exists why would you hardchrome?

But I know one thing that never dies,
the glory of the great dead.

Re: Pistol Hard Chroming
Hard Chrome is used in heavy engineering whilst cerakote will wear off even from holster use. If done right on a CZ there is no issue. The problem comes in if the person doing it allows for too thick of a coating. So the key is to make damm sure that it is done by someone that knows their stuff. It was common as muck on 80's CZ's.

Re: Pistol Hard Chroming
I had 2 of my handguns hard chromed, a CZ75 (pre-B) and a HK P7M13. The hard chrome on the CZ is still in prefect condition 30 years later, and the pistol is carried every single day. The HK is with someone else now, but I trust it will be as good as new. I doubt that Cerakote will last that well, but that is a good option too.
Let's go Sarel !!!

Re: Pistol Hard Chroming
Bought my 75 pre B already Hard Chromed. No idea of who did the job.
EDC - leather holster, no signs of wear.
When I concentrate properly it will shoot 50/50 on NHSA targets.
Only problem is 54 year old eyes struggle with the silver front sight.

Re: Pistol Hard Chroming
I have a Pre b 75 that I got hardchromed by Truvelo at least 20 years ago. It was my EDC and sport for more than 10 years during which it lived in my DIY abs plastic holsters. It was done because I sweat a lot and it seems to be mostly hydrochloric acid which turns guns to red dust. There isn't a hint of wear anywhere other than on the slide rails where the chrome is shiny and there's absolutely no rust. Not a look I'm crazy for but if done right it definitely works well.

Re: Pistol Hard Chroming
Careful with hard Chrome if the person who is doing it is not competent with firearms.
The Chrome makes a layer over the parts.
On the slide and frame where they meet. If its not done correctly there. It will cause issue as the slide will struggle to move on the frame.
Personally a handgun must only be Blue/black. On rifles go crazy.
On a handgun when shiny and you shoot outside the slide reflects the sun and interfere with aiming.
Even in a self defence situation. That firearm is visible way off over a black/blue firearm.

Re: Pistol Hard Chroming
Mine is a similar matte finish. They asked me at the time if I wanted it perlemoen poacher or matte. I seem to remember that they said that to make it matte they would blast it first

Paint your front sight orange. I used Hummel brand from toy/ hobby store. Used regularly on the range. Touched up after 3 years.
