Ones own discretion is best, it is after all your own tool which you need to rely on or use (or abuse) as you see fit.
Every action has an equal or opposite reaction...
As per Glock:
Can I dry fire my GLOCK pistol?
"It’s ok to dry fire your GLOCK pistol, but we recommend using a snap cap or dummy round if you will be dry firing for a long period of time".
If you search around on different googlu-fu forums then you will come across an episode of 3 where the breach face either cracked or blew a hole from the striker pin hitting constantly within.
No mention of what spring and whether it was standard Glock factory or red or whether it was aftermarket.
Dry firing count wasn't given but excessive came up.
"Excessive" is also like the term "how big is a ball of string".
The physical ball size of 3 balls can be exactly the same size or diameter but 3 different thicknesses of the thread or strand thickness will give 3 different lengths of actual content.
Occasional or moderate dry fire is a different term to excessive.
Prevention is better than cure after all, snap caps or different dry fire aids are there for a reason.
Most don't break the bank.
