Default SAIGA. 223 MK-VER-03 VS smith and wesson m&p 15-22

    Good day guys.

I'm a dedicated sports shooter that wants to invest into a selfloading rifle. The 2 that I'm interested in is in the subject matter and just cannot decide on which one to go with.

Any recommendations please as I have the dealer waiting on My to secure the rifle

Not sure, as entry level I'll try 3 gun, clay shoot and gong shoot and take it from there

The AR platform is going to be quicker for most things, and have a lot more available accessories.

But the .22 will be very limited for divisions and may be a disavantage

The two are so vastly different from one another.

If you want to have fun IMO and you are set on only these two then the Saiga. The .22 cheaper to shoot obviously.

Those two have fairly different applications.

The .22 is a toy for grownups, to teach children etc.

The Saiga is a serious beast and the way to go if you are intent on sport shooting.

Have you tried them yet, or do you have experience with them?

I love my Saiga in 7,62x39, but if I was going to go for a .223/ 5,56 I'd go with the S&W M&P SportII

As others have said the 15-22 is another category altogether. I have one and I absolutely love it, fantastic fun gun.

Comparing those two is akin to comparing a 1970’s Wyllis Jeep to a 2010 250cc Go-Cart.

The dealer can wait. Here on the forum there are preferred dealers that could probably even beat the deal you’re getting there anyway.

First decide what you would like to do?
What firearms do you own so far?
How much money do you intend spending on this hobby per month or year?

I have the Saiga MK Ver 03 in 223 ( AK-102) and with a red dot it does what I need it too, recoil is light. But ammo is cheaper in 7.62x39 surplus.................

    ?
I could not disagree more. I can’t recall ever seeing one at an IPSC match, not to mention anything other than an AR being anywhere near the top half of the field.
