Okapi knives always bring back memories, like that first time you stabbed yourself in the hand because you weren’t listening to your Dad when he was telling you how to cut biltong properly? Okapi’s are a part of our collective history. They’re a South African legend. Many a young lads first knife was an Okapi.

Okapi 3 ***, the knife carried by gangsters and probably responsible for most stabbings.

Yes biltong cutting would come in second.

An okapi was the knife drawn by the guy who introduced me to the concept of how well a weapon in the hands of a competent user could change ones behaviour.

An okapi as an EDC is just as capable of slicing through most tasks that any premium brand or custom knives can do.

One of the downsides is the softer steel that needs to see a sharpening more often when used as a working knife.

One upside is not having to pamper it and watch out for usage marks.
It can be replaced easily enough without breaking the bank.

    A side note:
The damage caused by any knife is in reality down to the capability of the wielder.

That sounds like a story worthy of it’s own thread?

Many a firearm owner on the Cape peninsula had that moment when they realised it is better to bring a gun to a knife fight. And a good many never survived to make it a reality.

Some one proudly showed me his original Okapi a few weeks ago. I think it was of German origin.
