Natshoot has given its legal team instructions to urgently send a letter to the National Commissioner of Police to get clarification on SAPS’ interpretation on the carrying and use of firearms for self-defence for which licences have been issued in terms of section 15 or 16 of the Firearms Control Act.

    Kind regards,
    Herman Els
I can see this query not coming back with a favourable answer from those who would see us disarmed . . . Luckily, their interpretation does not constitute law.

The term "krap waar dit nie jeuk nie" comes to mind, particularly since it seems this current iteration of discussions on this topic was triggered by some random voice-note on WhatsApp (I haven't heard it myself) from who knows what source. Perhaps the voice-note was created as a result of an incident of wrongful arrest ? Or was it a "braai storie" ? Or just some ahole troll. Anyone who has heard it, please provide any info about the alleged source. Thanks.

Must be same policeman that will tells you Hollow point ammo is illegal. So now you are twice as deep in unexplainable trouble.

Further e-mail from NATSHOOT on all of this ...

    Dear Member,

The bullying of police officials at roadblocks is a new phenomenon you must please take heed of. We are hearing of more incidents of this nature every day.

There is an official SAPS Directive issued on 5 May 2022 in the Free State in this regard, which states that the only requirement to transport a firearm in a private vehicle is that one must be able to show the licence for the specific firearm if so requested by a police official. There is no legal reason why this instruction will not be applicable in all other provinces too.

You can read the specific Directive in Newsletter Vol 18(07): https://natshoot.co.za/newsletters/2...rivate-vehicle

We suggest you make a printout of the Directive and carry it with you if you transport sport shooting or hunting firearms.

    Please stay safe

For a moment there, I thought Paul must have been bullying the police. LOL

Love NATSHOOT to bits, but perhaps they need a proof reader before sending out mail ....
Obviously they must have meant " The bullying by police officials at roadblocks "

Then again, perhaps the police need to be bullied for a change.
