Expired Deceased Estate Firearms
Hi all,
A friend of my who lost his father recently wants to gift me a .303 but there are some concerns.
The license of the firearm has lapsed in May but it has been stored by the executor of the estate at a gunshop in Randbug, Iirc the exector is Sanlam.
Although I have successfully licensed a FA from a deceased estate before, it was 10 years ago and I cannot recall what documents I require.
From memory I remeber the following:
1 - copy of license,
2 - letter from executor,
3 - id copy of deceased,
4 - death certificate of deceased.
But before getting to that, I need to know if it is possible? The firearm is not in dealerstock
Any advice?

Re: Expired Deceased Estate Firearms
Did the license expire before or after the death of the deceased?

Re: Expired Deceased Estate Firearms
Technically, if the firearm was an estate firearm before the license lapsed, it should stay an estate firearm.
Unfortunately, some DFOs only look at the date on the card. This happened to my brother and he had to hand in two firearms under the amnesty.

As Batman69 says. Does not have to be dealer stocked assuming the executor has sufficient storing capabilities or is willing to sign a storage permit for you to store the gun in your safe.
