Default Building a New Shooting Range - Input please

    Hi to all.

I am lucky enough to be able to assist a friend who just bought a farm in our area build a new shooting range.

So far we have selected the spot with safety in mind and have graded a 500m range with a bull dozer.

So now we have the perfect location and we are now starting to look at gongs, targets, shooting benches, shade etc.

Please gooi input on what you think a shooting range must have, should have, would like to have.

Gongs - what size? What steel? What colour to paint them?

    Targets - gooi input.

Rifles will be from .22 right up to a Barrett in .50Cal

Handguns from .22 up to .44 Magnum

Will be interesting to see what input we get, will help all.

    Cheers.

Get the SABS standards for a shooting range, especially if it is to be registered.

janfred - large mountains directly behind the range, safety is ok from this aspect.
Ds J - just a private shooting range on a farm.

So close to Merweville. An area and dorpie I just love to visit.
Done 99% of my hunting in this area.

Private range on a farm I dont believe you need SABS approval.

But normal ranges excluding once that allow 50cal the fall out area is something like 2500m.
Was part of the RO competency courses we had to do. So will need to go check on it.

    Yip that could be it.

But on a farm im sure wont apply. Especially where hunting is allowed. As long as your neighboring farmers house is not visible in you scope I think its fine.

Peter Wells. -this has been taken into account.

Some good info coming in. We are good on all distances mentioned so far.

All our land down range, massive mountains at the end of the range as well.
