Re: Which 7mm?
Its too similar to a 7mm WSM and 7mm rem mag in performance. These will require a lot more changes to the rifle action, including a need for new brass (hard to find), new dies etc, and it also puts the rifle in the magnum category, which I am not a big fan of those that are just a bit too much gun.
Generally, from a 7x64 and .280 Rem (almost identical) you can add another 150ft/sec for the .280AI and .284 Win and then if you go magnum, you add another 150ft/sec for the same bullet weight. This equates to about an inch bullet drop at 300m.

Re: Which 7mm?
Don’t think the 284 Win is going to give 150fps more velocity than the 7x64 or 280 Rem. I’m shooting 154gr Interbonds at 2920fps with RL26 from my 7x64. That’s not a max load but an accurate node. I also have an irrational hankering for a 280ai (think it’s the cool-looking shoulder on the brass) - but I can’t see how it’s going to be a significant enough improvement over the 7x64.

I do not think the 284 Win has a performance advantage over the 7x64 or 280 Rem. Case capacity is very similar. The reason for it's existence is that it fits in a short (308-sized) action.
