.243 vs 6.5 x 55

Never hunted around Merweville, seems like I never will! My experience has been the complete opposite, have hunted springbok on a lot of Karoo farms with a 243. I have yet to encounter a scenario where a 243 is not enough gun to hunt springbok with.

Most of the farmers that I have hunted with use some form of 6mm or 5.56mm as their "go to" guns.(often 243 or 22-250).

While I have seen larger animals(kudu, gemsbok, roan, sable etc) successfully hunted with a 243, I wouldn't support its use for hunting larger than blesbok-sized game.

100% I love my 243. It is very accurate and has almost zero recoil. It also makes a stunning range caliber. Bushveld or anything bigger than blesbok I use my 30-06

Even more so in that they do not know bullets and end up with fancy names like Varmint Grenades or Zombie Zappers which make 2 inch deep 5 inch wide non lethal wounds on anything other than perfect head or between ribs shots.

Red or yellow tips kill better approach.

SO i found a Sauer 90 in .243 .Full stock. Beautiful gun but in the end i bit the bullet on a new Sauer 100 classic in 6.5x55. Now for the wait.

Good choice, and if you want to stir the pot a little around the campfire, you can tell the 6.5 Creedmoore chaps that the 6.5x55 is the better gun

How do you figure that?
The 6.5x55, 260 Rem & 6.5CM are almost identical in ballistics, wind drift and recoil.
They do the exact same job!
The difference, when shooting a 140gr bullet, between the 3 is 0.1’ depending on the tests.

If you really want to be technical, the 260 is the one to own.

It’s a funny thing, if you want a midrange hunting cartridge shooting high BC bullets just neck down a 270 and slap a relevant twist one it, or if you hate that just tell the world you necked down a 30-06 or necked up a 25-06, regardless, then you can shoot your high BC 143gr bullets fast without any nonsense or pressure.
Most gunsmiths gun do this in their garages yet the world doesn’t seem to want to go that route, hunting rifles does not require match grade accuracy it just needs to shoot whatever bullet you want at the speed you want it at.
