Guns don't have much if any scope for benefiting from 'run time' digital management of anything so I doubt if there has or will be to make such huge improvements in performance (of whatever metric that may be) in the same periods.

Yes, and no.. even five years ago people were still shooting through chronographs hoping to get a reading and not shooting the chrony in its moer, or the sun messing with it, etc. Now everyone has a Labradar next to them.

We just don't see it much in the retail space because they're expensive and heavy and thus very limited use cases. Powder manufacturers like VV are constantly working on improved powders, leading to products like N555 and N565 / N568.. though it seems N568 is actually worse than N570 which it was supposed to improve on in certain aspects

I'm with oafpatroll here. Not talking about the 7PRC, more in general: guns are open-loop,low-efficiency systems (~70% of the available chemical potential energy in the propellant goes to making heat and noise, and that is as good as we're ever going to get because of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics). Propellant development is as much black art as science. There are honestly precious little gains (not saying none, but little) to be had by changing the size and shape of the metal container for the powder.

in the end (assuming your goal is to hit things far away, with enough authority to register the hit) you want to shoot the lowest-drag bullet as fast as you can, and it must carry enough momentum that you at least know you hit your target. gains have definitely been made in the precision and consistency with which bullets can be made. you can't make them better than perfect, and many modern bullets are damn near perfect.

I think where we are in this game, is at the point where the biggest improvements lie managing down sources of variation, so that one starts to approach the theoretical mean.

Well, it certainly has a longer MPBR than the 7x57, which gives the shooter bigger margin for error when it comes to range estimates. In saying that, the recoil will be stout, to say the least, so not a rifle for beginners. Not even for me. I have a slight build and my .30-06 shook me around on the bench. My .308 is far more pleasant to shoot.

I have friend here that is very interested in this calibre. After a long chat around the fire last night, he decided to take a good hard look at 7mm RM.

Keeping this thread alive. Does anyone have any knowledge on whether Howa intends to chamber something in 7mm PRC?

Hi. Keeping this thread alive. Waited long for this. My Howa 26” 7mm PRC currently at CFR for processing. Went in 15th March and jogging along. Went wooden stock from Gunworx with big sissy pad and with adjustable cheek piece, Arken EP5 5 x 25 x 56 ffp scope with MOA reticle.Keen to see performance with factory ammo before I invest in dies (probably will do it anyway)

Great choice, I made the same one in March.
Howa 26" Bull Barreled action, while waiting for my license the rifle is currently at the gunsmith getting a 11-deg. crown cut, barrel & bolt fluted and cerakoated, trigger job and 30MOA Rail.
Since buying I have also received my APW Carbon X Stock and NX8 Scope for this "Long Range" build. Brothers Arms just received stock on some 7PRC Peterson brass which I collected yesterday.
I will be hand loading Barnes 168g LRX's as well as Hornady 175g ELD-X's which I have plenty of. Also waiting for some Hornady 160g CX's from the States which have had good reviews in this caliber.
I will do all my initial load development using H1000 as I also have a good supply of it. I decided on this Rifle despite already owning a very nice Sauer 200 in 7mm Rem Mag. The motivation was, I wanted a dedicated long-range rifle and also don't want to wear out the Sauer as it is part of a matching pair of 200's, the other being a 30.06. which I one day hope to pass down..........
I too suspect this caliber will quickly gain popularity as the ballistics speak for themselves.

Hi. Got license on Thursday. Picked up gun on Thursday, bought ammo Friday and
assembled everything on Friday night. Shot in rifle yesterday and then first time for me, started at 500m and moving up in 100’s ending at 900m gong, on target every shot then at 900m = 6 shots and 6 hits. Not bragging just very happy ��
