What paint to use for a safe??
So I recently purchased a rifle safe, it was pre-owned, for the most part its in fantastic shape. There are however some scratches and marks on the edges on top and the back.
I was hoping to maybe sand it down a bit, and touch it up with a mini roller brush or the like. Anyone know what paint to use? The OEM paint has some texture to it as well which threw me off as well.
Im not looking to repaint the entire safe, the door and face is flawless.
Or should I just leave the safe be as is?

Hammerite, no need for a primer and it has the hammered texture if you choose that option. Makro, Builders were running some specials

Re: What paint to use for a safe??
I used automotive 2k black on mine with a gravity fed spray gun. Very hard wearing paint.

I used Rustoleum Hammered finish spray, over a light grey primer, and it came out looking brand new. The Rustomeum is expensive, but dirt cheap compared to the contents of the safe.
Protip: leave the inside of the safe painted in the primer, the light grey avoids the safe looking dark and gloomy inside.

Re: What paint to use for a safe??
Get Hammerite. Do not get the spray.
Get A tin. You then buy one of these small Rollers at paint shop. They about 5cm wide roller looks like sponge. Dont get the woolie type.
Also get one or two roller sponge heads. Dont even try to clean them, Dump them after use.
And off you go.
Do a roll on with paint to cover and then a nice thicker coat, This will give you the hammered finish look as a bought safe.
Leave the panels painted alone for at least 24hours. No matter what the instruction say. Hammerite even new fomula takes some curing time.
Leave Rustoleum alone. Been there done that. Not close to Hammerite final finish.
Done my fair bit of Safe restorations.
Last year bought and did a Chub Cat 2 safe that weighs just short of 1.5tons . Best type safe ever.

One of these inside top of safe. At China Town half this price.
Just dumb chinese batteries and put Energizer or Duracell in.

Re: What paint to use for a safe??
Many thanks Gents. I think I have a game plan based on your suggestions... Also the lighter color paint inside the safe is a winner, and the portable light.i battle with my handgun safe as it's so dark. I might tackle this as well
