Decided to jump on the .303 and Luger. Offered him R1250 per firearm which he accepted.

Will get the Luger properly valuated and might sell it off to an interested party when the dust has settled.

He has two to choose from. Dfo in town and the one doing the farms and smallholdings. The town one apparently signs permits with less issues than the rural one. The rural oke is actually a nice guy but can be full of shit sometimes. The one in town I will reserve comment on...

Jip. Buying a shotgun for R3500 and then having to pay R1500 in storage fees for example is not ideal. I would rather buy a a case of no7 to shoot.

Trick question...can you get a storage permit if you don't have a competency for the firearm...

If I remember correctly you just need a licence for a firearm. No mention of type or competency. And no comp part on form to fill in. So theoretically you should be able to get a storage permit on for example a green licence - no comp.

There seems to be q lot of misinformation floating around about this. I've even heard a DFO get it wrong. You just need a licence of the same type. I guess that because the storage permit is issued in terms of the FCA, it must be an FCA licence and not the Arms and Ammunition Act of 1969.
Obviously, in order to have a licence, you must have or have had competency but the paperwork requires a licence for the same type of firearm.

Not same type. C8 - Date licence was issued and C9 - Serial number are the only two fields. Nothing about same type on the form.
With my last permit for a 38spcl my DFO put the number for a Mini14 in.

I haven't tried wit a green card yet.

That is correct, you need a valid license. Type is not a requirement
