    Default Vehicles

October is typically my time to go Elk hunting. My buddy, my son and I usually go for the season opener in Utah. Camp is set up at about 6,000 feet of elevation, but we hunt higher up on the mountain. From camp it is about a 25 mile trip to get to the mountain, so we use ATV's for getting there, and for hauling our gear.

My buddy has a Yamaha Rhino 660 and it will go pretty much anywhere. Plus it can carry over 1,000 pounds (rated). We have winched it over dead blows of trees that are 8 feet high, and 30-40 feet wide.
My son has the Kawasaki 360 Prairie which carries a lot of weight easily, due to the solid rear axle.
My Yamaha 700 Grizzly is fast and comfortable. It rides like a Cadillac. Lots of fun tearing around the desert at high speed.

Thanks. I like for them to blend in to the terrain as much as possible. I just saw a TV ad for the new Can Am side by side. Looks like a cross between the Yamaha Rhino and the Polaris Razor. Not sure how much cargo it will carry, though.

Are ATV's commonly used in South Africa?

We typically race like fools to and from the area where we hunt. Once we are up on the mountain we putt around, but to and from is like a rally race.

    M14,
You have some cool toys. Have you seen this one at your local Ford dealer?

Dang! I want one!! This is my 2 seater. It's a Joyner 650 with the Isuzu engine. It hits about 65mph on the flat with two adults and a pile of gear. Lots of fun. It would make a cool gun platform, but not as cool as that Ford.

Did you get the Razr? Or the standard Polaris? They are both awesome.

M14, you've got some wicked wheels, man. Totally jealous. You've got me yearning to hit the mountains again, only we use bi-pedal flesh plodders.

More cool toys! You've got to tone it down...
We can't keep up with this hedonistic, decadent toys-race!

Thanks, guys. Nothing better than taking out the vehicles and guns and ripping around the dez. The Joyner is going to need a tune up this season, and a new throttle cable. I'd love to paint the Joyner, but my daughter likes it red. Ha.
