You're not missing anything, I'm assuming they are probably busy with a "media campaign " or want to establish a larger Media footprint across social media, not sure.

But if it can silence Organisations and groups like GFSA for a moment, I'm all for it.

    FPC Update;

The FPC may seem to have been a little quiet lately, but rest assured that we have continued to inch our way towards a full and proper launch. As many of you may know, the FPC is still in the 'building' stage, but we are now aiming for 2 October 2023 as the date for when we can clearly say that the Firearms Policy Campaign is now a thing (our one year anniversary of registration).

Marksman Sport Shooting Club held an 'introduction to sport shooting' event in Ottery, Cape Town, on 10 June 2023, and invited the FPC to participate and show themselves. We were represented by the ever-able FPC director Zaahir Manuel, and the overall event was a big success. We remain grateful for the invite by Marksman Sport Shooting.

We have been working on some merchandise options in the background, and these are at an advanced design stage (no Mickey Mouse and slapstick Microsoft Paint designs here).

Our v0.8 website is now v0.9, and v1.0 will allow you to donate easily and securely to the FPC through PayFast or a similar payment solution. It will also enable quick and easy sign up. It will be a very simple thing overall, until we can get a v2.0 website with all the bells and whistles, including an online store (you know; for all that merch).

PBO application status continues, and is the main reason we are not aggressively pushing for subscribers and donors. Once that is in place, you can expect the momentum to pick up.

    Citizens. Not subjects

    Posted a few hours ago.

After much waiting and delays, our PBO status is officially underway! We have submitted all our documents for FICA purposes, from which point the actual SARS stuff begins.

As part of this, we have appointed a CEO for the purposes of conducting external relations and acting for the FPC, marking our first truly executive director! Our non-executives provide the much needed oversight, and for the time being, executive functions are very shackled.

We will persist with the default company MoI until we sort out the PBO status, and then move to adopting a comprehensive company constitution.

There are many motivation services out there. They are often expensive, tell you how difficult it is to write a successful motivation, and then demand dozens of documents to write massive multi page essays.

Some services are better than others, and CFR is sometimes incompetent. We do not deny this. Some supporting documents are also legally required, depending on the type of application.

What we would like to challenge, is the idea that we should NOT use the box on the SAPS 271 form to write a motivation for our applications. Why should the average citizen need to pay a third party to write a motivation for them, rather than write their own?

    What are your thoughts?

What do you think is criminalised by the FCA, that shouldn't be?

The Free Market Foundation South Africa is compiling an index of South Africa's excessive criminalisation laws.

What sections of the Firearms Control Act that carry criminal penalties, do you think should not carry criminal penalties?

We'll start: possession of ammunition for a calibre other than one you have a licenced firearm for.

I have always written my own motivations. If people are too lazy or dumb or intimidated to articulate why they need a specific gun then thats their problem.

But yes, It would be nice if "Sporting purposes" was enough reason... And back in the 90's it actually was.

I think the need for a motivation document is stupid. The block on the saps form should be adequate. A one or two liner reason should be reasonable enough.

A SAPS DFO told me once that someone applied for a licence, and part of the motivation was that the gun was also a backup for in case they couldn't deal with whatever emotional /mental/ health issue they were experiencing, as a means to commit suicide. Dfo motivated that the licence should be declined, it went to cfr and they approved it. So what's the point any case?
