They are simple to convert. However in over 10 years of owning one I have never bothered. The factory mags are built like a tank. Probably the most durable mags I have ever used. Some sort of heavy duty fibre/polymer with steel feed lips and locking points. You will never wear them out in your lifetime. DS on this forum has possibly the most stunningly set up Saiga I have ever seen. He converted his to AK mags. I own both Saiga and Type 56 underfolder.
