What is the Swarovski Gong Shoot.

The first shoot was hosted by KZN Hunters back in 2012. Recently handed over to renown match director Norbert Hellberg, this year promises to be one of the very best. A premier shooting event, the Swarovski shoot is one you definitely don’t want to miss. Platrand lodge again plays host to this event, so you will get to spend the day surrounded by natural beauty.

The shoot consists of 6 ranges, 5 gongs per range. All ranges will be given, and range finders are encouraged. Gongs are 200mm with some 100mm thrown in for good measure. Distances range from 150-450m, and the shooting positions are all hunting style scenarios.

You entry includes morning coffee and rusks, light lunch and an amazing supper with prizegiving.

The official Swarovski Gong Shoot is around the corner! Below is all the information you need regarding this exciting event:


When: Saturday, 4th March 2023

Where: Platrand Lodge, Ladysmith


Entry: R800 (includes coffee/tea & rusks, delicious boerie rolls and a sit down dinner). Extra tickets for lunch and dinner can be purchased through Platrand Lodge at R260. Please note that entries are limited to 150 competitors. Accommodation is available at Platrand Lodge. For accommodation enquiries, please contact 036 631 0204

Event Format: Individual shoot, no teams. There will be 6 ranges, with 5 gongs per range, and 2 minutes per stage.


Event Rules:
No calibres larger than .300WM.
No rangefinders of any type. (including electronic range finding scopes).
Distance to one gong on each stage will be given.
No Bi-pods
All rests will be provided
Muzzle breaks will be allowed.
Ear protection compulsory.
Gongs will be marked and numbered.
Range officer decision is final.

I did the Hog Down in Estcourt a couple of times. It was field going shooting and despite not being very good at it I had an absolute blast.
