30mm TUBE DIAMITER

I would like to get some info on tube diamiters for hunting rifle scopes.
What is the advantages of a 30mm over 25mm tubes on scopes? Leupoldt VX3 4,5x14x50 with the 30mm tube is what i am interested in. Scope to go on .308

But beyond that, the center tube diameter must be adequate to allow a sufficient range of windage and elevation adjustment." End quote.

Nothing more than that though. I'd thought that it will also affect the amount of light from the front to the rear lens, but obviously not.

They use the same size inner tubes and that is why you get more adjustment. Your objective lens determines the light gathering. The misconception about light and 30mm tubes vs. 1" tubes seems wide spread.

If I had to choose between a 1"(25,4mm) one piece scope (whole body is made form one piece) and a 30mm 3 piece scope (front & rear tubes are screwed into the central turret housing) I would prefer the 1" tube scope.
Most (if not all) of the better made scopes bodies are of solid one piece construction.
