Springbuck...
While capturing springbuck, I took this photo, purely for the nice set of horns on this young male.
But I still chuckle every time I see the 'result' of my picture..

Re: Springbuck...
Game Farmer, Nice buck. I dont know much about springbok, due to heart water in our area. Tell me how old is this young buck?
as far as I know the rams horns develop like this:
1 year - bent forward like mountain reedbuck.
2-3 years -grows outwards at base, tips curve inward.
4 years plus - tips start bending backwards.
Am I correct to say that this buck is at least 4 years old then?
I like the thick neck, though the body size seems a bit small.
What would be the dressed weight of your big rams?

Re: Springbuck...
That buck is going to grow up to be something special.
Not sure how old he is, maybe 5 years? Not old though as his horns are still slim and smooth, with sharp tips. What he lacks in girth is made up for by the impressive length.

Re: Springbuck...
Willie, you are quite right wrt horn development, although I have a two-year-old that had a PH drooling the other day. It already classify for SCI at 2 years. Immense girth and decent length. I'll try and take a picture, for interest sake.
The one in this post is about 4 years old, but unfortunately not mine. Could not pry it from the farmer's hands
The body on this springbuck does look small, but I think it is merely the angle of the picture. I had to cull 6 two year old springbuck a month ago, and they weighed from 23kg to 26kg. Just the carcass. No head, feet, skin or intestines!
For interest sake, here is a pic of one of my 5-year-old breeding rams:

Re: Springbuck...
These are true blue kalahari springbuck The chap that I buy from farm with in excess of 5000 springbuck, and have some of the best kalahari genes available. You can see from the weight of my 2 year old springbuck, that they are quite big compared to the 'normal' springbuck.
