Default Magpul MOE hand guard longevity

    Greetings members.

I’m very interested on whipping the old firewood off my type 56 and getting something a little more modern. Not talking Midwest industries modern but magpul moe modern.

My question, how strong/tough is the hand guard. I run my AK hard and she gets properly warm and I’m scared that hand guard melts or something even with the metal insert.

Any feedback would be appreciated. TIA

I don't own an AK, but run Magpul furniture on a number of my guns and some have been for 15+ years without any issues, from hand guards, to pistol grips, to stocks.

MAGPUL is most definitely quality, as Ric said can't specifically comment on AK accessories but the few MAGPUL accessories I have is definitely strong/ tough/ durable etc.

I don't have any long gun furniture but the other bits I got certainly earned their purchase prices by being of excellent quality.

I've had the Magpul hand guard, mid length one, and stock on the T56 for a couple of years.
2 IPSC rifle matches, 2 1000ish round SLR courses, some fundamentals courses, and range work/fun aplenty.
The gun's been pretty warm during some of these sessions, warm enough that gloves are required. So far, no warping or melting.
I would think that if your rifle got hot enough to set the woodwork on fire, it would probably melt your plastic furniture.

Can I ask where you got your muzzle break?

Magpul kit is tough as hell, I have the MOE handguard for my AKM and other Magpul Remington 870 furniture and it's a good piece of kit. Properly heat-shielded and sits tight.
