I like the look of that one, and good to see its a "keeper". New Rifles are expensive. A Howa action seems cheap (max 15K) , but by the time you add stock, scope, suppressor, dies, mods, brass, bag etc, It passes 40K in a flash!

This is true. However, this was the only way to afford a "precision chassis rifle" as the majority of the ones available start at 50 to 60k. Scopes etc still needs to be bought then.

I agree, I was looking at the Tikka's in varmint barrel, and they all start at 2x the cost of the Howa's and there is no guarantee that the barreled actions will perform better. From what I can deduce from a small sample size of friends who have invested in both platforms, the chances of getting a good rifle or a dud are about the same with both brands. What is new on the budget rifle scene are the Bergara rifles, that have taken on the budget rifle sphere in the USA by storm. It's basically a Rem700 action with a Bergara barrel, all made in Spain, supposedly better quality than those made by Remington itself. There are a few available locally, but the brand still flies under the radar.
