    Default Gunsmiths

    Hello all.
I know this will probably be a subjective topic however, are there any GOOD Competent gunsmiths in Johannesburg.
Man I have come across some real jokers.
I dont like the inhouse gunsmiths from the likes of Safari and out of stock.
That is like buying meat from a fish market.
    Can anyone help please.

    Thank you.

Big difference between fitting a scope (new parts fitter) and serious gunsmith work like building a rifle or altering a stock etc.

For new parts fitting the "Inhouse gunsmiths" should be fine as that is their expertise.

Maybe state the type of work you need, then you might get better answers. Some specialise in stock building nd fitting and others on perfecting open sights on big bore rifles for instance. The "Jack of all trades" and still masters of it all and also doing work in a relative acceptable time frame will be scarce.

    Thank you Adoons and Heath.
I need a new stock built for a hunting rifle.
The stock I have out the box is synthetic and not what I want.
    Hope that helps.

Gunworx in Randfontein (speak to Jean-Luc), they can do wooden stocks to your liking, for chassis there's Gunwarrior, Venatics Gear and Serval Tactical. You can also try Rikus Scheepers from https://hf-stocks.co.za/,but he is in the Eastern Cape.

Custom rifle maker/builder, but also a gunsmith of note is Danie Joubert in Pretoria.

You won't go wrong with him

I believe Danie is primarily a metal-smith, but I know his rifles are beautifully stocked. I believe he has somebody who does the woodwork for him.

If you want something truly beautiful, that would be a good place to start.

When I visited to have my rifle threaded, tyen he had a blank walnut slab that he was busy prepping to get turned into 2 stocks..

So maybe he does sometimes do the woodwork himself or some of it, or perhaps now he has someone else. That was about 2 years ago

I had my .458 express done by Danie, his stock maker at the time was Faan de Vos, absolute master craftsman
