Posse callup

and comment on the Minister's speech.
Here's my contribution...
#1 Paul 2010-11-04 07:31 It's refreshing to see that, after a decade of denial, the SAPS are at last admitting that there are fundamental problems with their vision of firearms control legislation.
It comes as no surprise whatever to those of us who have been beating this drum since the '80s however.
The fact is that this Act never had anything to do with fighting crime, though, and can never have an impact on crime as it relates solely to licensed (legal) firearms... and they aren't the problem (as per the SAPS themselves).
We shall have to see how this develops.

#1 Paul 2010-11-04 07:53 Minister, with respect... We have been telling you and your predecessors this for years. Your new-found honesty is refreshing (late as it may be).
It has been the most frustrating thing, over the last few years, to have to sue the SAPS, the Minister and the Commissioner at great expense to force them to comply with the law of the land. The currect Act is still unconstitutiona l and fundamentally flawed so I suppose that even with this awakening to reality ion some spheres of the administration of the Act, much of the litigation will have to continue..."Always remember to pillage before you burn"

Finally, some reason has seemed to prevail with regards to the FCA and the CFR!
Hopefully there will be a positive outcome for all legal firearm owners whereby we are no longer treated as second rate citizens by those put into positions of authority.

My bit:
So, 9 months to sort out a probelm that was intentionally created over a 10 year period....? I dont thinks so.
Yes this is perhaps the most positive news firearm owning citizens have heard in a long time, but until the Gov& SAPS stop viewing firearms in the possesion of ordinary taxpaying citizens they will not solve this problem.
The problem is criminals, ie those who disobey the law NOT those who DO.Recent studies show that 1 out of every 3 liberals are just as dumb as the other 2

Re: Posse callup
My piece:
"It is good to see the declaration from the minister to improve the disasterous implementation of the FCA. Let us hope that the action will follow the declarations. If Mr Mthetwa is really serious about combating the crime in South Africa he should ensure that FCA will facilitate extensive private firearm ownership so the citizens be equipped to help SAPF to fight the criminals. Let's see the outcome... "

Re: Posse callup
Here is my post:
I fully support the ministers actions to sort out corruption in all his departments...Firearms owners can assist with a list of people that have a bad reputation and needs to be replaced.
Improve the admin process, license the person not the gun.
You wont find illegal guns on your computer system.. They are somewhere in the streets, and will never be handed in..Look under the criminals bed!!!Yes it might even be a Cop's hired out gun!!
Now find out why the streets are full of crime committed with SAP & SANDF Firearms (Automatic Rifles, Armour piercing bullets, Z88 guns, AK47's).
Trim the whole FCA process down in consultation with sporting & hunting associations and rather spend time looking for unlicenced firearms!!!

So SAPS is 10 years behind schedule but now promise that it will be sorted in 9 months; Really?
Saddest part of all this is that the Gov/SAPS was warned that 10years ago FCA/CFR would be a black hole in terms of time & resources when it came to crimefighting.
Policy must be changed; liscence the individual NOT the firearm.
Regulations & legislation can be changed all they want but until they realise this & stop flogging law abiding citizens who have done nothing other than own a firearm then it bound to be more of the sameLast edited by camouflage762; 05-11-2010 at 13:11. Reason: Delete duplicate post

Re: Posse callup
My 2c:
Minister: Thank you. It really does appear that you have recognised the problems, and are prepared to sort them out.
The simplest solution to all your headaches regarding the FCA and the CFR, is to licence the user, not the tool.
Legal gun owners are not the problem, and legally owned firearms have nothing to with crime. Making the system simpler, makes for a reduction in cost and manpower, which could be used to fight real crime.
and
Minister, over the last few years, a number of organisations, S A Hunters, BGOSA, GOSA, SAGA to name but a few, have offered assistance, and some have challenged the FCA/CFR legally.
Maybe its time to take them up on their offer to assist, so the SAP can get on with policing.
Licence the user, not the tool.Last edited by Mag; 04-11-2010 at 10:34.
