    Default Non-corrosive AK-47 Ammo Brands

Hi All. As the title suggests, I am looking to find out what brands of non-corrosive ammo is available for my Type 56. Tried out S&B (not the cheapest) yesterday and it was straight forward cleaning thereafter. Not much fouling. Happy days!

Didn't have to revert to my 1 part Ballistol and 9 parts water to get rid of the corrosive residue first.

    Any info is appreciated.
    Thanks

What ammo have you been using that is corrosive?
The bulk Norinco ammo is supposed to be non corrosive.

You can also Google search the nail test to test ammo for corrosion

Who told you that the majority of ammo bought in 2025 is still corrosive?

The Norinco ammo is definitely dirty and foul-smelling (and grouped dar better in my T56 than Russian Barnaul) but it won't be corrosive.

Rather play it safe with norinco and Russian ammo labeled as "non-corrosive," I know they'd never ever lie about that... but still.

It's a process thing. The corrosive stuff used to be in the primers, but it turns out there are other primary explosive compounds that are both non-corrosive and more stable. The world has switched over to these, it's only on REALLY old ammo that you're bounds to find corrosive primers.

Cordite is not corrosive, but it has a higher flame temperature, thus leads to faster throat erosion than modern powders.

But I think only the Brits ever used it, so you are very unlikely to find it in 7.62 x 39.

Russians used, and may still use, corrosive priming compound for their extreme cold weather performance in use storage.

Hi All. Just a follow up question. Can anyone please confirm if the STV Scorpio AK ammo is non-corrosive? Saw some good deals for it.

    TIA
