    Default UK Firearms Certificate

    Hi Gunsiters

I was wondering whether there are any members who have moved to the UK and obtained FACs for rifle/shotgun. Keen to hear they managed the requirement to submit lifetime medical records. For some of the older guys this is not so easy to go back 60years!

    Would appreciate any insight. Cheers

Yes I have one (lapsed) - FAC is for shotguns. Rifles require a firearms Licence and a more onerous process.

Process for shotguns is fairly straightforward - the firearms officers there are clued up and engaged.
Shout if you have specific questions

Am I allowed to have a butter knife on my person for use as a screwdriver on my shotgun?

I had a handgun FAC many moons ago, quite a process, but main thing is you will need to join a club first and go through probation period and then club recommends you. Best thing you van do is get hold of whatever relevant association is in the UK and they will guide you.

    Thanks RAC appreciate it.

I’ve joined the NRA and BASC for for FAC and SGC respectively and got my full membership. The NRA gave me an assessment at one of their assessment days because of my past experience so that was helpful.

If you need more advice, I can reach out to my old boss, who has moved back to the UK. He has a few shotguns and probably a couple of rifles as well. You may have shot with him at Stella and I'm sure he'll be happy to tell you how he's gone about it.
    Let me know

    Thanks Johann

Appreciate that. I’m going to speak to my FCO (equivalent of DFO) in my local borough. Apparently they are responsible for the approval completely. I may take you up if that doesn’t go well.

Would love to know how you do that if you have hardly been to the same doctor twice over your life and even then the few that are still around don't keep records for more than a year or so.
Or is this only for if you had something worse than a bit of flu ?
