    Default Revolver training

    Howdy,

    Have a 357.

Suck at manipulating and Reloading, especially.

Any trainers in the Gauteng good at this type of training.

    Thanks

I don't know if it's still a thing but if you want to get good at reloading a wheel gun, take up pin shooting.

Stock revolver doesn't allow speed loaders and pin revolver does. There are other differences but both will drive you to get quick fast or you will keep losing.

It's all about practice. Pretoria revolver club are a brilliant bunch.

I agree, there is nothing like pin shooting to improve your revolver shooting. If you're interested consider joining MTSC at the Gauteng Pin Shooting Association. We shoot once or twice a month at the Cecil Payne Shooting Range in Roodepoort. PM me for contact details.

Have a look at the places suggested and go/join. But in the meantime, Practice, practice, practice... Look at the appropriate YT vids from people like Jerry Michulek and Paul Harrell on how to manipulate, hold, and reload and do what they say over and over again. Dummy rounds will help. If you are used to a pistol a revolver will seem awkward at first but lots of handling will sort that.

This is good advice. I came very late to revolvers and did exactly that. Started slow and scary clumsy but reached a reasonable level of proficiency within a few months of daily practise against the clock.

One of the main things (if you are right handed), is switching the revolver to your left hand to reload with the right. I've seen too many people fumbling during a reload while holding the revolver in their strong hand

I have wondered how much of the typical modern revolver's wrong-handedness is due to their historical main military usage being with cavalry...

The old revolvers from way back when were loaded through a single slot at the 1 o'clock position. Load one rotate cylinder load the next and so forth. And miraculously in spaghetti westerns, those guys let off at least 20 shots and then found the need to reload 🤣

Top IPSC revolver shooters disagree it seems. Faster to keep the revolver in your shooting hand than juggling it around.
