Optics on your compact EDC

A-R, if you are struggling with Astigmatism, then you should really consider a "Prismatic" sight. Makes for a clear reticle and removes the starburst effect.

I have a similar issue with some astigmatism, where i the dot is bright I see a starburst, if it's dimmer it's more dot like, but, in bright light, disappears.
Who does a prismatic RDS for compact pistols?

I have seen prismatic sights for rifles, and these are definitely a good option to consider.

Is his type of sight available for EDC handguns?

I was looking for a prismatic sight for handguns, but could not find anything.

With current tech a pistol mounted prismatic would probably be excessively large. Remember you need to squeeze a few lenses/prisms into there.

The extra weight of the lenses might also be problematic on a moving slide.

I've been toying with the idea of putting an optic on my G19 for a while now. I've been hesitant to get it milled with corrosion always in the back of my mind down here at the coast.

Anyway, over the last month or so, I had decided that when I do pull the trigger to get it milled, or buy another optics ready handgun, I would be going with the Holosun EPS. The enclosed dot just seems so make much more sense for EDC and it has a nice large window vs similar enclosed dots on the market.

Then, in came the new kids on the block, Akra. A little has been spoken about them on the site, but mostly regarding their rifle scopes, which seems to be up to scratch and compete in the Arken/Element range with decent glass and features. They have just launched their Origin X Combat. Enclosed, same mounting footprint as the EPS and pretty much the same size window. On price they are pretty much the same as well, but the kicker is that they have a lifetime warranty. Akra seem to have established themselves within the industry pretty well by now, so it does make it an appealing prospect.

Has anyone here run one or at least seen it in person? It's quite difficult to find guys here in KZN that have stock on hand to actually see and feel these things before buying, so it would be good to hear from guys that have used either of the two above dots?

For what it's worth, I would rather consider a Osight over an AKRA, because of the reviews, I haven't seen any reviews on the AKRA, I'm referring to Ben Stoeger's reviews/ comments on the Osight optics, and again I'm not sure exactly what models he has tried and tested out, but he has a bunch of videos on his YouTube channel about the Osight red dots, not sure if that holds any water.

I'm saving up for the Holosun EPS CARRY for my G43X.

I have carried for years but I'm new to optics on pistols.

What is your preferred choice of optics and why?
Was cost, warranty, reticle type, brand loyalty, reticle colour and or size your reason?

Did a friend convince you or did you test multiple optics before making a choice?

I recently upgraded my G43x non-MOS to a Canik Prime, so Shield RMSc footprint is the format I will be looking at

I have a Vortex Defender CCW on my carry G19 which I really do enjoy. Without glasses the front sight is so blurred I can’t make out the actual peak or point of aim. The dot helps big time.
I have a Holosun 407CO 8 moa dot on my G17, in hind sight I should have gone with a 6 moa rather. But it still aids these old buggered eyes.
It was my failing eyes that convinced me to try the RDS route. I have had both FA’s milled to accept the dots.

How are you enjoying the Prime over the 43x?

I have only run a few rounds through the Prime at an indoor range.
As luck would have it, I collected it yesterday on a printout. I plan on taking it to the range this Sat and possibly a shoot next Saturday too!

I took a couple pics and brought out a scale. A fully loaded 9mm Prime 17+1 weights 900gr versus a 1KG Fully loaded HK P2000 40S&W 12+1
These slimline pistols break some rules in physics

Of the limited rounds I have fired the Primes return to point of aim is awesome, making follow up shots quick. Very accurate, and the trigger is sublime! It must be said, I am not a fan of Glocks so never really gelled with the 43x
