Youtube and our community
I post this here as were have more traffic than in the video section.
Youtube has recently "striked" two mostly historic Channels, Duelist1954 and capandball, who are now close to being entirely deleted.
Duelist had the audacity of adding snakes to his Colt copies revolver grips, and capandball showed how to make paper cartridges for antiques rifles, if I got that right.
The short story is that both creators are now posting videos with mostly free registrations on Patreon:
www.patreon.com/cw/duelist
www.patreon.com/cw/capandball
They will however post specific videos for paying members to thank them.
They are also on Rumble but not in a very up to date manner.
I am currently going through my list of youtube bookmarks and finding more channels with alternate hosting.
The common excuses for creators not leaving the platform and its scrutiny are usually:
- King and Country,
- merchandises to sell,
- subscribers/followers not expected to follow.
I blame the big, successful channels for not leading the way out and not caring too much about the small guys. They missed the train with Playeur by keeping their YT channels updated (yes, forgotten, IRTV and others spent lots of time and money uploading their videos on Playeur, but without incentive for viewers to follow...).
The result is that you can probably not show how to sight a gun anymore on Youtube without being accused of "gunsmithing".
Lets be proactive and support alternate video hosts, when available at least.

Check out https://www.pepperbox.tv/
It is made/developed by Brandon Herrera, specifically because of YouTube's silly laws and stuff. It is a bit more rough around the edges (like Brandon, but that's the charm), so just keep mind of that.

Re: Youtube and our community
The stuff Youtube is getting hissy fits over currently is quite ridiculous.
Someone I follow who primarily makes rather technical videos about combat aircraft, often of WW2 vintage had a video deleted a few months ago because there was a picture of uncle Adolph in it.
Another guy recently got a strike for showing his daughter operate a piece of heavy machinery.
I wish they would stop thinking they are the protectors of the civilised world's morality, because they are terrible at it.
The problem (apart from cost) of the alternative channels is that not one of them has all the contributors who's videos I like watching. Not even if you only consider the firearms content. So then one ends up having to pay subscriptions on multiple services. Sure, these guys have to earn an income too. But I can't afford it.

Western society is rapidly approaching peak snowflake and the wankery on things like yoochoob is a reflection of that.

Re: Youtube and our community
Tell me about it.
Sent an old Aimpoint to Sweden in March this year to be repaired. Months later it's finally returned to me with an enclosed letter from NZ Post stating that it's a 'pRoHiBiTeD iTeM' and that they take the 'sAfeTy Of OuR mEmBeRs SeRiOuSlY'. This for an inanimate, inert and broken optic.
And they wonder why their business is failing...
