Re: Wierdabrug DFO times
But honestly, how does this crap happen. Margate SAPS has 3 dfo’s. It’s a small station. You literally walk in, sign the register and get helped straight away. The longest wait is 5 minutes at the finance office. Then a day or max 2 later you receive your sms. That’s what it should be like. The only day you won’t find them in the office is on a Thursday, that’s when they do safe inspections, allegedly…

Re: Wierdabrug DFO times
I fall under Wierdabrug, and to be honest the appointment system works for me.
You make an appointment, rock up and get helped. The afternoon all applications are captured and on Friday she takes the applications to the Provincial DFO.
I dont get this urgency of getting an app in and the world will end if you dont get it submitted now, you are in any way going to wait.
As for the station commander, if that is the station agreed process, what do you think will the station commander do? Make an exception because you dont agree with the process.

Re: Wierdabrug DFO times
They're not doing us a favour. Their job is to serve the public. Having to make appointments to jump regulatory hoops because they're overwhelmed with their paper pushing is bullshit.

Re: Wierdabrug DFO times
Each to their own, I would rather make an appointment and get helped then rock up there and be number 50 in line....Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of time to sit and wait with no idea when or how long it will take to be helped.

Re: Wierdabrug DFO times
I see your point as well, but an appointment 5 months from now as a mere dfo is bullshit. So what happens when you pitch up in August to find out he/she is sick. Then you have to come back for another appointment to wait 6 months again. Meanwhile paying storage fees….

Re: Wierdabrug DFO times
Well, that's the way the system is supposed to operate.
But after thirty years of zero accountability, that's not what they believe their job is. They are now quite sure that they are the bosses, and it doesn't seem to me like there's anything much we can do about it. But yes, I a gree, it's bullshit. Some recent court decisions show that this is clearly the case from top to bottom in the SAPS and the government as a whole. And that's also bullshit. But since the court is powerless without the police enforcing it's decisions, and since the guilty party is the police, who obviously have zero desire to enforce the law against themselves...
And looking at world events, it seems like democratically elected governments forgetting that they are there at the will of and in the best interests of the voting public seems to be the way of the world now.
As for the concept of having to make an appointlent, I don't mind as long as:
1) There is a date available within a reasonable time frame (say two weeks?).
2) They keep that commitment.
3) The delay is not held against you if your renewal is handed in late because of this.

Re: Wierdabrug DFO times
Democratically elected governments forget what their moronic electorates allow them to. If you vote for lying, corrupt and incompetent thieves for >20 years the fault is with the hirer far more than the hiree.
Mates who fall under other DFOs where the appointment smokkel is in place have told me about arriving at the appointed time to find the office closed or DFOs absent and then getting bounced days or weeks into the future. If the people are useless and lazy tossers on a petty bureaucratic power pluck no amount of system or business process jiggery pokery will make it better.
The fact that thousands of SAPS bodies are holed up in offices shuffling papers filled largely with information on their alleged system already is a primary cause of the fuckup that is the administration of the FCA as they are for the most part at least as bad at that as they are at policing. An added disbenefit is the opportunity cost of having thousands of plods not plodding where arguably they could at least do some use as mobile traffic bollards.
To round off the rant, the officers at my DFO do what they can given the constraints within which they operate and for that I am grateful.
