I think you've hit the nail on the head in your reply above, about each one of us being a responsible firearm owner. If you take it a little further, ALL "legal" firearm owners, to varying degrees are responsible. We are the only community in the country that get screened by the SAP, EVERY TIME we purchase a firearm.
They check that our firearms are kept safely with safe inspections, they know where we live as we have to have a fixed address etc etc.

If memory serves, less than 1% of legally owned firearms are used in crime in this country.
I'm sure if one of us had offered you help when you were attacked, you wouldn't have said no.

How about you come down to one of our ranges (you can choose anywhere in the country as they all have similar minded members...yes I'm that confident about firearm owners) and come and see that we are not "overarmed" gun-toting thugs, and try out some of the firearms.

The offer is there, we will ensure that if you accept, it will be arranged.

I am very sorry to hear about your attack. It must have been horrific and is something that you still have to deal with on a daily basis.

I feel that if we could actually be MORE armed as a nation, we would start seeing a reduction of the senseless violent crime that is so prevalent in SA today. Responsible armed citizens, ready and able to defend themselves. An armed nation is a respectful nation. I would certainly rather be armed with the best defense possible than be a sitting duck.

In response to a question you posed...yes, the firearm should ALWAYS be on your person. Watching TV, preparing dinner, mowing the lawn...it's in the same place, all the time - on the hip. Criminals do not wait for a convenient time to attack you. They take you by surprise (as I have no doubt you are aware) and home invasions are exactly that...invasions into your home (when you're reading bed time stories, eating, sleeping, watching TV etc) and there's no point in your defense weapon being further than arms length away or in the safe.

Its the way we should tackle all posse call ups, no mud slinging, cool and calm.....they don't seem to have any response to this type of communication.
