Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
Hi guys/gals,
I was wondering whether those of you who carry a knife for SD purposes also use the same knife as a utility knife or is it reserved exclusively for SD. Thanks alot.
regards,
Malcolm

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
Last time I used my Coldsteel was at Warmbaths, cutting bread with the serated edge and then applying butter to the slices. Height of desperation. Then it was a mission cleaning it

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
I have in the past used a Spyderco Endura as a backup weapon and as a utility knife but this is not ideal as the knife will never be as sharp as it should be. I have recently added a Cold Steel Tanto to my EDC and that knife never gets used for anything else. It is a dedicated back up.

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
I use a CS AK47 as utility and my SD blade never comes out, unless a threat seems possible!

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
I use a Swiss army as my utility and the SD blade/s stay/s in the pocket or on the belt. I train basically only with my SD blades so sometimes when I need a knife to cut the apple or tomato I find myself with the open commander
But when somebody in the office asks for the knife than the swiss army comes out ...

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
I got funny looks at work when I drew my cold steel tanto to cut some string once.
for a while I would use my SD knife for utility purposes at work, but then decided it was a better idea to use my leatherman multitool or a leasurequip folder that takes stanley blades (got it in the camping section at Makro- all S/steel pocket clip linerlock folder, came with 10 blades and a pouch for R75)- both to keep my SD blade sharp, and to be discreet.
I did once use my CRKT bearclaw SD knife to cut away my seatbelt after a pretty bad wreck I was in...

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
I use my carry knife all the time. Opening boxes etc. Only if I'm going to be cutting a whole lot of strapping or doing something else to abuse a blade do I gran the cheapy out the car.
This allows me to practise drawing and deploying my carry blade everyday. So I need to give it a sharpen from time to time. Just like a shoot my carry gun as often as possible.

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
T makes a very valid point. I noted too that Gab Suarez has a similar philosophy.
I guess whether one chooses to use their SD knives for everyday tasks or not, they should in any case practice drawing and deploying the blade as often as possible.
Thanks for the comments guys.
cheers

Re: Multiple use of tactical folders/SD knives
Agree with Big T, my EDC is and was used for everything, now it belongs to girlracer though, so i was forced to buy me a new one! the last task it was used for recently was to help with the slaughter of a cow, the serated edge was used to saw through bone and cartlidge, CRKT M16-14sf, quality blade at an affordable price.
