Re: Shooting range & club in or near stellenbosch
Thanks Pirate, will definitely consider IPSC.
At this stage I'm not too concerned with distance, for that I'll go to an applicable range. Would like to get some trigger time on the AR, shotgun, and pistol. At the same time, I would like to get the boys (11 & 15) to spend time with the same. They've got a lot of hunting exposure, but relatively little time with these specific firearms.
Will this be possible at Somerset West Pistol Club?

Thanks LD. Will visit both Kraaifontein and Durbanville to check it out for long range.

For general shooting my vote would go to Durbanville. They have a handgun range that is 50 or 75 m; 2 rifle ranges - 1 is 100m & the other is 500m. On the shotgun front they have a skeet range, a trap range & a Compak sporting range.

I would stick with Kraaifontein. You can do everything you want, including shooting an evil black rifle. Durbanville doesn't like them too much.

Most definitely yes. We've got a number of young shooters doing VERY well at IPSC. A number of young shooters have come up through the ranks, getting training with the experienced shooters, and becoming competitive at both national and international level.
Monthly clubshoots are informal, but set up and run according to IPSC rules and principles. The idea is to create an environment that's conducive to getting people involved. There's quite a bit of family participation, in one case a regular trio of grand-dad, dad and kid. Further, since last year, there is generally a rifle or shotgun shoot after each handgun clubshoot, alternating each month.
